Sildenafil

Sildenafil 100 mg Tablet

Sildenafil is a medication commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) by increasing blood flow to the penis, which helps achieve and maintain an erection during sexual activity. It works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which allows for relaxation of the blood vessels in the penis, ultimately leading to improved blood flow. Sildenafil is also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Sildenafil Citrate

Sildenafil is used to treat men having erectile dysfunction (also known as sexual impotence). Sildenafil belongs to a class of medications known as phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. These medications prevent an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type-5 from functioning prematurely. This enzyme operates in several locations, including the penis.

Erectile dysfunction occurs when a man's penis does not perform well and grows after sexual stimulation, or when he is unable to maintain an erection. When a man gets sexually erection, his body's natural response is to increase blood flow to the penis, which results in an erection. Sildenafil helps to maintain an erection after the penis is aroused by controlling the enzyme. Sildenafil does not cause an erection until there is physical activity in the penis, such as during sexual intercourse.

Sildenafil is also prescribed to both men and women to treat the symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension. This is a kind of excessive blood pressure that affects the heart and lungs. When hypertension develops in the lungs, the heart has to work harder to pump enough blood through them. Sildenafil works on the PDE5 enzyme in the lungs to relax the blood vessels, increasing the supply of blood to the lungs while decreasing the burden on the heart.

Allergies: Inform your doctor if you have ever experienced any unexpected or adverse responses to this or any other medication. Mention any other allergies you have, such as those to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, carefully check the label for ingredients.

Pediatric Use: Sildenafil has not been demonstrated to have any effects on children under the age of one year. Safety and efficacy have not been established. Sildenafil should not be prescribed for erectile dysfunction in minors.

Geriatric Use: Studies so far have not shown problems that would limit the usefulness of sildenafil in elderly patients. However, older adults are more likely to have liver, kidney, or heart problems, which may require dose adjustments.

Breastfeeding: There's not enough data on the risks of using sildenafil while breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the risks.
